Balogun's Determination Amid Suspension

Seattle, July 4 – Folarin Balogun, a forward for the United States, expressed his commitment to supporting his teammates from the sidelines after being suspended for the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 match against Belgium. Following a controversial red card, Balogun has shifted his focus from personal disappointment to team morale.

During the last-32 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Balogun received a straight red card for a challenge on defender Tarik Muharemovic, despite having scored his third goal of the tournament earlier in the game.

US head coach Mauricio Pochettino criticized the decision, labeling it accidental, a sentiment echoed by Balogun in a press conference prior to Friday's training in Seattle.

Balogun described his emotional journey as a 'rollercoaster,' stating, 'I've felt sadness and happiness; it's been surreal. I believe the call was incorrect and a yellow card would have sufficed.'

He reflected on the thrill of scoring on such a significant stage and receiving accolades from NBA star LeBron James, but acknowledged that missing the match against Belgium has dulled the experience.

Despite his absence, Balogun is dedicated to uplifting his team, saying, 'I want to support the boys and keep the team's spirits high.'

The US squad appeared in good spirits, engaging in a light training session before visiting a local baseball park. Pochettino prepared for his ceremonial first pitch at a Seattle Mariners game, while veteran defender Tim Ream showcased his batting skills.

As the United States gears up to face Belgium, they will do so without one of their key players as they aim for a spot in the World Cup quarter-finals.
