Finn Allen Reflects on New Zealand's Challenge Against India's Batting Power
New Zealand's Struggle Against India's Batting Prowess
Auckland [New Zealand], October 28: Finn Allen, a batter for New Zealand, acknowledged the formidable batting display from India, particularly by Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, which made it challenging for his team to defend their score in the third T20I.
Sharma and Sooryavanshi provided India with a remarkable start in their chase of 199 runs, reaching 118 runs without losing a wicket during the Powerplay. Abhishek achieved his half-century in just 15 balls and completed his century in 35 deliveries.
Matthew Fisher took the wicket of Sooryavanshi, who scored 45, while Kyle Jamieson dismissed Abhishek after he made 113 runs. India successfully chased down the target in just 13.2 overs, finishing with 40 balls remaining.
Allen expressed that while New Zealand believed they had set a competitive total, the defeat was disappointing for the team. He emphasized the need to learn from this experience and focus on the upcoming matches.
“In a game like this, you quickly assess the situation, learn from it, and move forward. We thought we had a competitive score, but conditions often become easier as the match progresses. When a player like Abhishek Sharma is in form, he is tough to stop. It was just one of those games, and we need to shift our focus to the next one,” Allen stated during a press conference in Auckland.
He further added, “It’s always frustrating when things don’t go as planned. I wouldn’t point fingers at the batters or bowlers; everyone feels the disappointment. Players like Abhishek and Vaibhav are challenging to contain when they are on a roll, and they demonstrated their skills well.”
With this victory, India secured the T20 series, winning the first three matches. Allen noted that New Zealand felt they could have clinched victory in the first two closely fought games, despite the series outcome.
He described the honor of representing his country and playing in front of local fans as a fulfilling experience, mentioning that the team would take important lessons from this series as they prepare for the T20 World Cup in the coming years.
“The first two matches were particularly close, and we believed we could have won both. Regardless of the results, playing for your country is always a significant experience, and it means a lot to us. Returning to New Zealand and playing here after a while has been wonderful, especially with the enthusiastic crowds,” he remarked.
“Losing is never ideal, and it’s not what we aim for, but we are focused on the bigger picture of the World Cup in a couple of years. There are many lessons to learn from this series, and I have truly enjoyed the experience despite the outcomes,” he concluded.
