Fakhar Zaman Faces Two-Match Suspension for Ball Tampering in PSL
Fakhar Zaman's Suspension Details
Lahore [Pakistan], March 31: Fakhar Zaman, a batter for Pakistan and Lahore Qalandars, has received a two-match suspension after being found guilty of tampering with the ball during a recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) match against Karachi Kings.
According to reports from a sports news outlet, the decision came following a disciplinary hearing led by match referee Roshan Mahanama, who determined that Fakhar had indeed altered the ball's condition, breaching article 41.3 of the PSL's code of conduct. Although Fakhar contested the allegations, the hearing was held to ascertain the facts.
Under the PSL's regulations, a player can face a suspension ranging from one to two matches for a first-time level three offense. The incident occurred at the beginning of the final over during the Kings' chase, prompting on-field umpire Faisal Afridi to request the ball from Haris Rauf after it had been passed between Shaheen Shah Afridi and Fakhar.
A discussion ensued between Faisal and Sharfuddoula, leading to the decision to replace the ball, which was deemed to have been tampered with.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released a statement indicating that match referee Roshan Mahanama conducted the hearing, reviewing all evidence and allowing Fakhar a chance to present his case. Lahore Qalandars' Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, Team Director Sameen Rana, and Team Manager Farooq Anwar were also present during the proceedings.
According to the PSL's code of conduct, Fakhar has the right to appeal the ruling within 48 hours of receiving the official verdict from Roshan Mahanama through the league's technical committee.
As a result of this suspension, Fakhar will miss the upcoming matches against Multan Sultans on April 3 and Islamabad United on April 9. Currently, Lahore Qalandars holds the second position in the league standings, with one win and one loss.
