London, May 14: Yorkshire has secured the services of Pakistan's all-rounder Faheem Ashraf for the upcoming T20 Blast, which is set to take place from May 26 to July 18. He steps in as a substitute for Australian all-rounder Will Sutherland, who is sidelined due to a shoulder injury. The 32-year-old Ashraf is also expected to participate in two rounds of the County Championship in June.
With 85 T20I caps to his name, Faheem has previously played for Northamptonshire and Sussex in the county circuit. He is scheduled to join the team ahead of Yorkshire's first T20 match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge on May 22. Somerset, the defending champions, clinched their third title in the last season of the T20 Blast.
Expressing his excitement, Ashraf stated, “I’m thrilled to be joining Yorkshire. Many of my fellow players from Pakistan have played for the club and have praised the environment and the caliber of players in the squad. I can’t wait to arrive at Headingley.”
Faheem brings a wealth of experience, having played in various leagues including the Big Bash League, Bangladesh Premier League, and the T20 Blast. Notably, he recently became the second player in the history of the Pakistan Super League to achieve the milestone of 1000 runs and 100 wickets.
In his T20I career, Ashraf has taken 61 wickets at an average of 25.23 and scored 594 runs with a strike rate of 137.18. He has also represented Pakistan in 17 Test matches and 45 ODIs.
Gavin Hamilton, Yorkshire’s general manager of cricket, expressed his enthusiasm about Ashraf’s addition to the team. “Faheem is a seasoned multi-format player who will significantly enhance our squad. He has the ability to score quickly in the lower order and possesses the skills to make a substantial impact with the ball.”
