Guwahati, April 7: Faf Du Plessis, the former South African cricket star, has issued a caution to the Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians, emphasizing the importance of maintaining wicket stability during the powerplay and preventing a strong start for the Rajasthan Royals.
Sooryavanshi has been in exceptional form, accumulating 83 runs across two matches. He notably scored a rapid fifty off just 15 balls in the Rajasthan Royals' opening game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), posing a significant threat to the Mumbai Indians, who are eager to bounce back after a six-wicket defeat to Delhi Capitals (DC).
Du Plessis outlined three critical strategies for the Mumbai Indians to secure a victory against the Royals. He stated, "Firstly, do not give Sooryavanshi any room; he is hitting everything for six. Secondly, avoid losing wickets during the powerplay, as the top order is crucial for their success. Lastly, ensure that Rajasthan Royals do not get off to a quick start," he advised in a video shared by Star Sports.
Sooryavanshi made headlines in the IPL 2025 season by achieving the fastest century by an Indian, but he struggled against the five-time champions, falling for a two-ball duck at the hands of Mumbai Indians bowler Deepak Chahar. The left-handed batsman will be looking to redeem himself in the upcoming match.
Historically, the Mumbai Indians have a slight advantage over the Rajasthan Royals, winning 16 out of 31 matches, while the Royals have secured 14 victories, with one match resulting in no result. In 2024, the Royals were dominant, winning both encounters, but the Mumbai Indians retaliated in 2025 with a commanding 100-run win in Jaipur.
