Thrilling Opening Round at Hyderabad Golf Association
The AM Green IGPL Krishna Invitational 2026 kicked off in Hyderabad on Thursday, showcasing an exhilarating start with five players leading the pack at 5-under 65 at the Hyderabad Golf Association course.
Among the leaders were Gaganjeet Bhullar, a four-time AM Green IGPL champion, Aryan Roopa Anand, C Muniyappa, Rohit Baisoya, and Joshua Grenville-Wood from the UAE, who was making his debut in the IGPL.
With 16 players within two strokes of each other, the competition remains wide open with two days left to play.
In the team standings, Krishna Punjab Raptors and Vimtra Chennai Lions GC both finished the day at 9-under, with Bhullar leading the Chennai team and Muniyappa spearheading the Punjab Raptors. All four players from Chennai were under par, with Bhullar at 5-under, while Muniyappa led his team at 5-under as well.
Aryan Roopa Anand represented RVR Delhi Blue Bulls with a solid 5-under score, supported by team leader Shiv Kapur, who finished at 1-under.
The course's generous fairways allowed for numerous birdies and eagles, contributing to the excitement of the third event in the second half of IGPL Season 2.
Aryan made a remarkable start, achieving two eagles in his first five holes, both on par-4s. After a setback on the 15th hole, he rebounded with birdies on the 16th and 17th to finish at 5-under 65.
"It was a positive start for me. I have played this course since my junior days, so I feel familiar and confident here," Aryan commented, emphasizing the importance of sticking to his strengths.
Muniyappa, the 2009 Indian Open champion, displayed his experience with five birdies and an eagle, despite two bogeys, to join the leaders at 5-under. His eagle on the 15th hole was pivotal in his performance.
"I had a good day overall, managing my game well despite a couple of bogeys," Muniyappa stated, expressing optimism about his team's potential in the tournament.
Gaganjeet Bhullar also had a strong round, finishing at 5-under with a mix of birdies on both the front and back nine.
Joshua Grenville-Wood nearly took the lead, achieving 6-under before a bogey on the final hole brought him back to 5-under.
Rohit Baisoya started strong with back-to-back birdies but faced challenges on the back nine, finishing alongside the leaders.
Just one stroke behind the leaders, four players were tied at 4-under 66, including Samarth Dwivedi, who dropped a shot late in his round.
Pukhraj Singh Gill, fresh off a third-place finish in an Asian Development Tour event, recovered well after an early setback, finishing at 3-under 67.
Gill was joined by leading female player Vani Kapoor and several others, all tied at 3-under.
Karandeep Kochhar's round was particularly eventful, featuring an eagle and multiple birdies, concluding with a score of 3-under 67.
