Excitement Builds for the Fifth Season of SA20 Cricket League
SA20 League Set to Elevate Cricket Standards
Johannesburg [South Africa], November 5: Graeme Smith, the commissioner of the SA20 league and former captain of South Africa, expressed confidence that the upcoming fifth season will enhance the cricketing standards established in the previous four editions.
Smith made these remarks during the launch of the fifth season's campaign on Thursday, generating enthusiasm for this significant edition of South Africa's leading T20 league, which is scheduled to run from January 17 to February 21, 2027.
The festivities will kick off at St George's Park, where the three-time champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, will face off against the Pretoria Capitals in a rematch of last season's final on Sunday, January 17, in Gqeberha.
The summer cricket festival will then move across various cities including Paarl, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town, and Johannesburg, promising an action-packed opening week. After the first week, Mondays will be designated as rest days, while weekends will feature double-header matches, providing fans with a full day of cricket and entertainment.
Since its launch, SA20 has become a summer highlight, combining top-tier cricket with entertainment and an energetic stadium atmosphere. With thrilling sixes, stunning catches, music, fireworks, and a variety of matchday experiences, the league continues to offer fans a chance to engage in a cricketing celebration.
Graeme Smith stated, “As we enter our fifth season, SA20 remains dedicated to the fans. Their support has filled our stadiums, created an electric atmosphere, and shaped this league into what it is today. Season 5 is our way of expressing gratitude.”
He added, “We eagerly anticipate welcoming some of the finest T20 players globally, alongside our Proteas stars, while also showcasing the next wave of talented young South African cricketers.”
Smith emphasized that the quality of cricket continues to improve each season, and Season 5 will uphold this trend. “SA20 is for everyone—whether you’re a devoted cricket enthusiast, bringing your children for their first experience, or simply looking for a fun day out with friends, there’s a spot for you in the stands,” he remarked.
As part of the Season 5 launch, tickets are now available, starting at just $3 for frenzy tickets for all opening matches and select games. Tickets for the playoffs and the final on February 21 can also be purchased. Fans can buy tickets online at www.SA20.co.za, with stadium ticket offices opening on November 15, 2026.
The fifth season of SA20 will commence on Sunday, January 17, at St George's Park, featuring the defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape against the Pretoria Capitals in a repeat of last season's final. The competition will conclude with the final match at Newlands on Sunday, February 21.
