Excitement Builds for South Africa vs Australia Test Series Starting October 9

Durban [South Africa], September 25: Shukri Conrad, the head coach of South Africa, is eagerly anticipating the three-match ICC World Test Championship series against Australia, set to commence on October 9, as reported by the ICC.

This series marks a rematch between the two teams following their encounter in the 2025 WTC Final at Lord's, where South Africa triumphed over Australia by five wickets, thanks to Aiden Markram's impressive 136 runs and Kagiso Rabada's nine wickets.

Conrad expressed his enthusiasm about hosting Australia on home turf for the first time since 2018, stating, “Any series against Australia is worth looking forward to, especially since it’s at home.”

He added, “We haven’t had international Test cricket in South Africa for nearly two years. I’m certainly looking forward to playing in front of our home fans against arguably the best team in the world.”

The coach believes that the rivalry will be intensified due to their recent victory over Australia in the WTC Final. “There’s always a competitive edge between South Africa and Australia. While it may not be as intense as in the past, our win in the final last year adds an exciting element to this series,” Conrad remarked.

He further noted, “It’s always thrilling when Australia visits, and I expect this series to be no exception.”

Conrad acknowledged the strength of the Australian team, stating, “We respect them as a champion side. We identified some weaknesses in their lineup last year that we can capitalize on. They have a world-class bowling attack, but we believe that if we perform at our best, we can find ways to counter that.”

He emphasized the significance of the three-match series, saying, “This is quite different from a single Test. It’s our first three-match series in a long time, as we are used to two-match series. This will truly test our capabilities.”

The last series between these two teams in the red-ball format took place from late 2022 to early 2023, where Australia emerged victorious with a 2-0 win in three matches.

The upcoming three-Test series is crucial in the 2025-27 WTC cycle, with both teams currently positioned among the top contenders. Australia leads the standings with eight wins from ten matches and a points percentage of 80%, while South Africa follows closely with a points percentage of 75%, according to the ICC.

The first Test is scheduled from October 9-13 in Durban, followed by the second Test in Gqeberha from October 18-22, and the third Test in Cape Town from October 27-31.
