The 24-year-old was taken into custody by the Metropolitan Police in August of last year and subsequently charged in July 2026, stemming from an incident reported to have occurred in March 2024.
While the club has not publicly identified the player, they confirmed that a male player is currently facing an 'immediate and ongoing suspension.'
According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police, 'Robin Das of Queens Road, Waltham Forest, was charged on 23 July 2026 with two counts of rape.' The charges were made after his arrest on 27 August 2025, following reports of a woman being assaulted in Brixton on 30 March 2024. The victim is receiving support from specialized officers.
Das made his first appearance for Essex County Cricket Club in 2020, participating in nine first-class matches, 29 one-day games, and 24 T20 matches over the past six years.
The club issued a statement confirming that a male player under contract recently faced court proceedings related to an incident outside of club activities. They emphasized their ongoing communication with the ECB, PCA, and the Cricket Regulator regarding the situation, which includes the player's suspension.

Das's last match for Essex was on July 21 in a One-Day Cup game against Middlesex, marking his only appearance in the 2026 season. Born in Leytonstone, east London, he typically bats at the top of the order and has been a consistent member of Essex's white-ball teams since his youth.
In 2023, he joined the Dhaka Dominators in the Bangladesh Premier League, further connecting with his Bangladeshi roots and gaining experience in international T20 cricket.
