England's Strong Start in Perth Test: Brydon Carse Praises Ben Stokes
England Takes Charge on Day One of the Perth Test
Perth [Australia], November 21: Brydon Carse has expressed admiration for England's captain, Ben Stokes, as the team concluded the first day of the opening Test against Australia in a commanding position, according to reports from the ICC.
Stokes delivered an impressive performance, achieving figures of 5/23, which helped England secure a 49-run lead by the end of the day, with Australia struggling at 123/9 after England was bowled out for 172 earlier.
With the aim of breaking a 14-year drought for a series victory in Australia, England made a strong start in this five-match series, and Carse credited much of their early success to their captain.
“His character and enthusiasm are remarkable, and the way he conducts himself is inspiring. Everyone respects him. He’s an exceptional leader for our team. He’s been here for two and a half weeks, and as Ben Duckett mentioned recently, he’s in beast mode right now. We hope that continues throughout the series,” Carse remarked.
The 30-year-old also shared how Stokes’ motivational words during tea encouraged England to aggressively pursue dominance in the final session.
“Stokes kept it straightforward. We had about 45-50 minutes before tea, and he told the bowlers to give it their all. The way Gus Atkinson and Jofra Archer started was outstanding. After tea, the message remained consistent: maintain that intensity for a longer duration,” he added.
England's strategy of fielding five pacers in Perth appears to be effective based on the first day's performance, and Carse noted the strength of their bowling unit.
“I haven’t participated in many attacks with five seamers, but we all complement each other well. I’ve mentioned before that our group consists of six or seven seamers, each with unique skills. We hope that will benefit us throughout the series,” he stated.
Despite the promising start, Carse acknowledged that England still has significant work ahead.
“The priority tomorrow is to dismiss the last wicket. We’ve observed some players who got starts today, and their approach was clearly positive. I thought Alex Carey, towards the end, was quite proactive, which put us under some pressure. As we head into the second innings, our batters will have a clear game plan,” he explained.
Australia is known for its ability to recover from challenging situations, so England remains cautious. However, the strong opening day, spearheaded by their inspirational captain, should instill confidence as they progress through the match and beyond.
