India Faces Consecutive T20I Defeats

India's struggles in the T20I format deepened as they suffered their second consecutive series defeat, with England establishing an unassailable 3-0 lead. This setback was marked by impressive half-centuries from Phil Salt and Harry Brook. In the fourth T20I of the five-match series, England triumphed by nine wickets, finishing the game with 6.1 overs remaining, thus achieving their first bilateral T20 series win against India.

Following India's shocking 2-0 series loss to Ireland, they have now recorded five consecutive defeats in completed T20 matches, marking a troubling milestone for the T20 world champions. One match against England was abandoned due to rain. This series also means that Shreyas Iyer has yet to secure a win in his first six matches as captain, with five losses and one no-result.

Harry Brook and Phil Salt Propel England to Victory

During the match at the County Ground in Bristol, India’s captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bat, guiding his team to a total of 158-7 in their allotted 20 overs. After a shaky start at 48-3, Iyer played a pivotal role, scoring 80 runs off 49 balls, which included four boundaries and five sixes. England's bowlers, Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue, claimed four wickets between them.

England's captain, Harry Brook, delivered a stellar performance, remaining unbeaten on 79 runs from just 35 balls, featuring eight fours and four sixes. Phil Salt also contributed significantly with an unbeaten 59 runs off 42 balls. The duo came together after England lost their first wicket at 13 runs, with Jos Buttler being dismissed in the third over.

Previously, England had handed India their largest T20 defeat by 125 runs in the third T20I, where India was bowled out for a mere 76 runs. In the second T20, England won by four wickets, with 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi making his debut, scoring 14 runs in 10 balls, followed by a 13-run innings in the third match.
