England's Narrow Defeat in T20 World Cup Semi-Final

In a thrilling semi-final match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, England faced a narrow defeat by seven runs against India. Following the match, England's captain Harry Brook praised Jasprit Bumrah, labeling him as 'the best of all time.'

During the post-match press conference, Brook remarked, 'Bumrah is an exceptional bowler, arguably the finest currently. He has consistently performed at a high level for an extended period.'

While chasing a daunting target of 254 runs, Brook, who batted at number three, managed only seven runs before being dismissed by Bumrah, with Axar Patel executing a spectacular catch.

Brook acknowledged Patel's catch, stating, 'The Indian team displayed remarkable fielding. That catch is one of the best I've witnessed. Kudos to them.'

The 27-year-old also expressed his unwavering support for head coach Brendon McCullum, who has faced scrutiny following England's Ashes defeat. Brook stated, 'I’ve often said he’s the best coach I’ve ever had. His communication and presence in the dressing room are inspiring. His contributions as a player were phenomenal, and he has seamlessly transitioned that into his coaching. His impact over the past four years has been transformative for English cricket.'

Brook added that he would wholeheartedly support McCullum if the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) sought his opinion on the coach's future.

Jacob Bethell's impressive maiden T20I century kept England competitive throughout the match, but they ultimately fell short by seven runs.

In terms of bowling, Hardik Pandya claimed two wickets, while Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Chakaravarthy, and Patel each took one wicket.

India is now set to compete against New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
