A Heartfelt Tribute to Cricket Legends

On Sunday, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium witnessed a heartfelt ceremony marking the official unveiling of the stands named after cricket icons Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble, attended by their family members.

The event was overseen by Venkatesh Prasad, the president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and a long-time teammate of both legends, along with vice-president Sujith Somasundar and other officials from the association.

Earlier, on February 14, the KSCA had announced that Dravid, who amassed 24,177 runs in international cricket, Kumble, with 956 international wickets, and former Indian women's cricketer Shanta Rangaswamy would have stands named in their honor at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The old BEML end at the stadium's far corner has been renamed in honor of Dravid, while the pavilion end now bears Kumble's name.

Dravid expressed his gratitude, stating, “This stadium has been like a second home to me. I have spent countless hours here, more than in my own home. It has played a significant role in shaping who I am today. I am immensely thankful to the KSCA and this iconic venue for everything it has provided me throughout my life.”

He further added, “I am truly honored that Venkatesh Prasad and his committee chose to name an end after me. This recognition means a lot to me and my family.” His mother, Pushpa Dravid, and brother, Vijay, were present to witness this memorable occasion.

Kumble's family was also in attendance, including his wife Chetana, son Mayas, and daughters Aaruni and Swasthi.
