A Historic Event for Families

The upcoming Asian Champions Trophy in Punjab is set to be a deeply emotional experience for the families of Indian hockey players. Many parents are preparing to witness their sons compete live for the very first time when the tournament kicks off in Jalandhar on October 27.

For some parents, this will be their first opportunity to see their children play in person. One parent expressed, "It feels like a blessing that an international tournament is being hosted in Punjab this time."

Excitement Builds for Captain's Father

Sarabjit Singh, the father of Harmanpreet Singh, the captain of the Indian men’s hockey team, is particularly excited. He has been eagerly anticipating October 27 and plans to arrive in Jalandhar with family two days prior to the event.

As a farmer, Sarabjit has begun organizing his agricultural duties to ensure everything is managed while he attends the tournament. He shared, "I have arranged for others to take care of my fields and home so I can finally see my son play live."

He added with enthusiasm, "I have waited a long time for this moment when my son will perform in front of me. That day, I will set aside all my work."

A Long-Awaited Opportunity

Ajit Singh, the father of player Sukhjeet Singh and a member of the Punjab Police, is also looking forward to this event. His job has previously kept him from attending his son's matches.

He remarked, "I could never attend any of his games due to my duties. I always watched him on television. But this time, I am thrilled to finally see my son play live."

A Special Moment for Krishan B. Pathak

For goalkeeper Krishan B. Pathak, this tournament carries a unique significance. Having lost his parents at a young age, he was raised by his uncle and his family. Pathak expressed that he has always wished for his family to witness him play, and that dream is about to be realized.

He stated, "For those of us whose families have never seen us play live, these matches will represent the culmination of years of hard work unfolding before our eyes."
