Elliot Anderson Joins Manchester City in Record-Breaking Transfer
Elliot Anderson's Move to Manchester City
Manchester [UK], July 2: Manchester City has officially announced an agreement with Nottingham Forest for the transfer of midfielder Elliot Anderson. The 23-year-old is set to join the Premier League champions following a significant financial deal after the FIFA World Cup 2026.
This transfer represents a crucial enhancement to City's squad as they aim to bolster their midfield ahead of the upcoming season.
In their announcement, Manchester City stated, “We have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest for Elliot Anderson's transfer. Currently, Anderson is participating in the FIFA World Cup with the England team and has successfully undergone a medical examination in Kansas. The final steps of the transfer will be completed once he returns to England. Meanwhile, we wish Elliot and the England squad the best of luck in their World Cup journey, and we eagerly anticipate his arrival in Manchester.”
As reported by Sky Sports, the transfer fee for Anderson is a staggering GBP 116 million, setting a new record.
This deal makes him the most expensive British player ever, surpassing the GBP 115 million that Real Madrid paid for Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2023.
Only Liverpool's GBP 125 million acquisition of Alexander Isak and their GBP 116.5 million signing of Florian Wirtz last summer rank higher in the list of the most costly transfers in Premier League history.
According to Sky Sports, Anderson chose Manchester City over Manchester United and other clubs that showed interest. Nottingham Forest was willing to negotiate with either team, but the final choice was made by the player, who opted for City.
