Kota Kinabalu [Malaysia], August 20 - East Bengal FC achieved a remarkable feat by securing their second consecutive win, dominating Rovers FC (Guam) with a staggering 12-0 scoreline in the AFC Women’s Champions League 2026-27 Preliminary Stage at Likas Stadium on August 20, 2026.
This victory marks a historic moment as the Moshal Girls set a record for the largest win by any Indian club in an Asian tournament, surpassing the previous record of 9-0 held by East Bengal's men's team against Club Valencia (Maldives) during the 1985-86 Asian Club Championship, as reported by AFC Media.
With this win, East Bengal is now just one match away from advancing to the group stage, facing Sabah FA from Malaysia next on Sunday.
After a commanding 4-0 victory over Rajshahi Stars FC (Bangladesh) in their opening match, East Bengal asserted their dominance early on, taking the lead in the sixth minute when Priyangka Devi Naorem's shot from outside the box struck the left post and found the net.
Rovers goalkeeper Jae Almonte faced another setback in the 15th minute when she mishandled Anju Chanu Kayenpaibam's shot, allowing Astam Oraon to capitalize on the rebound.
East Bengal continued their offensive, with Priyangka scoring again seven minutes later, skillfully lifting the ball over the grounded Almonte after breaking into the box.
After halftime, the IWL champions maintained their momentum, with Sulanjana Raul dribbling into the box in the 48th minute, leading to a deflected cross that Olivia Anokye converted from close range.
Just a minute later, Soumya Guguloth delivered a precise cross to Abigail Antwi, who headed in East Bengal's fifth goal.
Jae was tested again in the 51st minute, parrying a curling shot from Shilky Devi Hemam, which Sulanjana converted on the rebound.
Shilky then added her name to the scoresheet five minutes later with a stunning shot from just outside the box, finding the top left corner.
Olivia scored her second in the 58th minute with a low shot from inside the box, followed by Abena Opoku's powerful finish in the 64th minute.
East Bengal continued to dominate, with additional goals from Abena (70'), Anju (73'), and Soumya (90+3') sealing the comprehensive victory.
