EAM Jaishankar Meets Cricket Legend Brian Lara in Trinidad
A Memorable Meeting in Trinidad
Port of Spain [Trinidad and Tobago], May 9: During the concluding phase of his three-nation tour in the Caribbean, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had the opportunity to meet the iconic West Indian cricketer, Brian Lara, in Trinidad and Tobago.
Jaishankar shared a moment from their meeting on social media, posting a picture with the caption, "With the one and only @BrianLara."
Regarded as one of the finest batsmen in cricket history, Lara is often mentioned alongside legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, and Jacques Kallis. Over his illustrious 17-year career, he accumulated 11,953 runs in 131 Test matches at an impressive average of 52.89, along with 10,405 runs in 299 One Day Internationals.
In addition to meeting Lara, Jaishankar also engaged with Trinidad and Tobago's Prime Minister, Kamla Persad-Bissessar. Together, they presented Made-in-India laptops to local school children and finalized several agreements aimed at enhancing bilateral relations.
Jaishankar highlighted the significance of his discussions with the Prime Minister, stating, "It was a pleasure to meet PM Kamla Persad-Bissessar. I value her insights on bilateral cooperation and regional matters."
He expressed appreciation for the warm welcome he received at the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago, thanking the Prime Minister for her kind words.
The minister was also honored at a flag-raising ceremony organized by the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, where he was joined by Brian Lara.

Jaishankar's visit to Trinidad and Tobago marks the final leg of his Caribbean tour, which included stops in Jamaica and Suriname.
Upon his arrival, he expressed his happiness to be back in Trinidad and Tobago, thanking Foreign Minister Sean Sobers for the warm reception. "I look forward to a productive visit over the next two days," he added.
His recent high-level engagements in Jamaica and Suriname, which took place from May 2 to 7, signify India's commitment to strengthening ties with these nations.
