Joburg Super Kings Secure Landmark Victory

Newlands [South Africa], December 27: Duan Jansen showcased an outstanding T20 performance, leading the Joburg Super Kings to a remarkable 22-run win against the Pretoria Capitals in the second match of the Betway SA20 Season 4 on Saturday, as reported by a news release.

This victory marked the Super Kings' first win at the Centurion, the home ground of their Highveld rivals, in four seasons.

The match was heavily influenced by Jansen, who was named Player of the Match after dismantling the Pretoria Capitals' middle order with impressive bowling figures of 4/23.

Initially, the Capitals appeared poised to chase down the Super Kings' total of 168/6, thanks to a solid 71-run opening partnership between Will Smeed (34 runs off 30 balls) and Bryce Parsons (41 runs off 30 balls).

They reached a comfortable 86/2 by the 12th over, but the Super Kings made a strong comeback when Janco Smit (1/37) disrupted the Centurion crowd by dismissing Dewald Brevis.

This marked the beginning of a collapse, as the Capitals lost five wickets for just 28 runs, with Jansen leading the charge. He had already dismissed West Indian Shai Hope in his first spell before returning to claim the vital wicket of Bryce Parsons.

Jansen continued his impressive performance by clean bowling both Connor Esterhuizen and Daniel Smith, effectively ending the Capitals' resistance.

Among the four candidates for Player of the Match—Duan Jansen, Tymal Mills, Wiaan Mulder, and Bryce Parsons—Jansen received an overwhelming 83.2% of the fan vote.

The Capitals won the toss and opted to bowl first under clear skies at Centurion, with new English recruit Tymal Mills making an immediate impact by striking Super Kings captain Faf du Plessis on the wrist with a rising delivery.

This set the tone for the Capitals, who saw both openers, Du Plessis and Matt de Villiers, dismissed for just 16 runs. However, Rilee Rossouw (48 runs off 33 balls) and Wiaan Mulder (43 runs off 28 balls) steadied the innings with a 78-run partnership for the third wicket off just 54 balls.

Although Mills returned to dismiss Rossouw, the Super Kings had established a strong position, allowing Akeal Hosein (22 not out off 10 balls) and Dian Forrester (10 not out off seven balls) to elevate the visitors to an unassailable total.
