Dhruv Sheoran Leads Andhra Open Golf Championship with Impressive 67
Dhruv Sheoran Takes Early Lead at Andhra Open
Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) [India], April 7: Dhruv Sheoran, a notable competitor on the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), kicked off the Andhra Open Golf Championship 2026 with a remarkable opening round of four-under 67 at the East Point Golf Club (EPGC).
The 31-year-old golfer surged to the top of the leaderboard, achieving an eagle on the par-5 12th hole and scoring three consecutive birdies from the first to the third holes. According to reports, Dhruv executed a powerful 372-yard drive on the 12th, followed by a gap wedge that left him just two feet from the hole, which he successfully converted for an eagle on the par-71 course.
In a tie for second place, Bengaluru's PGTI champions Chikkarangappa S. and Khalin Joshi finished one shot behind at three-under 68.
Notably, the par-5 seventh hole has been modified to a 477-yard par-4, adjusting the overall course par to 71.
Currently, Dhruv ranks 11th on the PGTI Order of Merit after six tournaments, with his best result being a tie for sixth at the Indorama Ventures Open Golf Championship in Ahmedabad last month.
Reflecting on his performance, Dhruv remarked, “The round was good. I kept giving myself chances and gained momentum after the eagle on the 12th. I did drop a couple of shots late, but overall, I’m pleased with my play. The course is situated in a valley, making the slopes and grain challenging to read, but I remained patient and adhered to my strategy.”
Khalin Joshi, who won on the Asian Tour in 2018 and finished eighth in the DP World PGTI Rankings in 2025, commented, “I played really well today. The greens are tricky to read and not easy for putting, but I kept the ball in play and made some good birdies. I dropped a few shots due to a couple of three-putts, but I’m satisfied with my start and eager for the next three days.”
Angad Cheema, the previous event winner at EPGC in 2024, carded a 69 to tie for fourth place. Meanwhile, Saptak Talwar, the leader of the DP World PGTI Order of Merit, ended the day tied for 10th at one-under 70.
A standout moment of the day was Nepalese golfer Subash Tamang achieving a hole-in-one on the 144-yard par-3 11th hole. Tamang also finished with a score of 70, placing him in a tie for 10th.
