India A's Resilient Performance on Day One

Christchurch [New Zealand], October 31: In a commendable display of resilience, Dhruv Jurel scored an impressive unbeaten 99, helping India A reach 291/7 at the close of play on the first day of the second unofficial Test against New Zealand A at Hagley Oval on Saturday.

India A faced an early challenge after being asked to bat first, losing Yashasvi Jaiswal for a duck in the very first over, dismissed by Fraser Sheat.

However, Devdutt Padikkal and Sai Sudharsan steadied the innings with a crucial partnership of 91 runs for the second wicket. Sudharsan contributed 41 runs off 63 balls before being dismissed by Jarrod McKay.

Padikkal continued to anchor the innings, scoring a solid 80 runs from 127 deliveries, which included 12 boundaries. Unfortunately, his wicket triggered a swift middle-order collapse, as India A lost three wickets for a mere six runs, slipping to 137/5.

Fraser Sheat was instrumental in this collapse, claiming key wickets, including those of Padikkal and Smaran Ravichandran.

As India A struggled, captain Jurel took charge, finding support from Manav Suthar, who added 22 runs. Together, they forged a partnership of 62 runs for the seventh wicket.

After Suthar's dismissal, Jurel continued to fight alongside Akash Deep, steering India A past the 290-run mark.

Jurel ended the day not out on 99, hitting 11 fours and three sixes, while Akash Deep remained unbeaten on 25, leaving the visitors in a much stronger position after their earlier difficulties.

For New Zealand A, Fraser Sheat was the standout bowler, taking four wickets, while Brett Randell, Jayden Lennox, and Jarrod McKay each contributed with one wicket.
