Dewald Brevis Shines as CSK Secures 83-Run Victory Over GT
Brevis Leads CSK to Victory
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India] - On May 25, Dewald Brevis delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 57 runs off just 23 balls, which propelled the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a commanding 83-run victory against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The young South African batsman, celebrated for his aggressive style, was awarded the 'Player of the Match' for his explosive innings that featured four boundaries and five sixes, helping CSK achieve a formidable total of 230/5.
After the match, Brevis shared his joy and relief at contributing significantly to his team's success. "I’m definitely happy. I’m really enjoying and having fun. Just be myself – the kid who has played the game. I just enjoyed it," he remarked, as reported by a Media House.
The 22-year-old also reflected on maintaining composure during high-pressure situations. "I kept telling my mind that it’s cool out there. I needed to play an innings like that, and I’m very grateful for it," he added.
Often referred to as "Baby AB" due to his batting resemblance to the legendary AB de Villiers, Brevis expressed his gratitude for the comparison. "It’s always been a privilege. He’s someone I’ve always looked up to. It’s an honour to be compared to him," he stated.
Brevis acknowledged the support he has received throughout his cricketing journey. "For me, a big thing is I’ve got people who advise me," he mentioned.
In the match, CSK won the toss and opted to bat first. A solid partnership of 63 runs for the second wicket between Urvil Patel (37 off 19 balls, including 4 fours and 2 sixes) and Devon Conway (52 off 35 balls, with 6 fours and 2 sixes) set a strong foundation for CSK. Additionally, a 74-run partnership for the fifth wicket between Brevis and Ravindra Jadeja (21* off 18 balls, with 1 four and 1 six) helped CSK finish their innings at 230/5.
For GT, Prasidh Krishna was the standout bowler, claiming 2 wickets for 22 runs.
In their chase, GT faced difficulties and lost wickets consistently. Sai Sudharsan was the top scorer for GT with 41 runs off 28 balls, hitting six boundaries. However, CSK's bowlers dominated the innings, with Noor Ahmed (3/21), Anshul Kamboj (3/13), and Ravindra Jadeja (2/17) leading the charge to dismiss GT for 147 runs in 18.3 overs.
Despite this victory, CSK finished at the bottom of the points table with only four wins and ten losses, totaling eight points. Conversely, the Gujarat Titans concluded their campaign with a loss, which may impact their chances of securing a top-two finish, ending with nine wins and five losses for a total of 18 points.
