Dewald Brevis Emphasizes Focus Amidst External Noise Ahead of T20 World Cup
Dewald Brevis Stays Grounded Despite External Pressures
Paarl, South Africa - January 11: Young South African cricketer Dewald Brevis has expressed that external distractions are a constant presence, whether participating in the SA20 league or the World Cup, but they do not impact his performance.
Currently representing the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20, Brevis is looking forward to the T20 World Cup 2026, set to commence on February 7. He stated, “There’s always outside noise, regardless of whether it’s SA20 or the World Cup. At the end of the day, it’s still cricket, and I intend to enjoy the game and play my natural style. The noise doesn’t bother me.”
Brevis added, “It’s thrilling to see everyone’s form improving. However, our focus remains on the present, which is the SA20, and we’re having a great time. The upcoming World Cup is incredibly exciting.”
Since making his T20I debut against Australia in August 2023, the 22-year-old has participated in 19 matches, amassing 469 runs with an impressive strike rate of 173.70, including one century and several half-centuries.
In related news, Pretoria Capitals captain Keshav Maharaj shared insights on his strategy as the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 approaches. The left-arm spinner is part of South Africa’s 15-member squad for the tournament in India and Sri Lanka.
Maharaj, who has played 40 T20Is and taken 38 wickets since his debut in 2021, is currently leading the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 league. Following a recent victory over the Durban Super Giants, he mentioned that he is not overly focused on the World Cup.
“It’s important not to look too far ahead. This is a great chance for us to gain match experience. We’ve only had one series in India so far, so this is a valuable opportunity to prepare,” Maharaj stated.
When discussing the unpredictable nature of T20 cricket, he emphasized the importance of trusting the process and maintaining a strong work ethic. “In T20, you might concede runs or take wickets; it varies. The key is to keep believing in your methods and working hard. Sometimes things go your way, and sometimes they don’t, but I always try to stay positive,” he concluded.
