Dewald Brevis Eagerly Anticipates ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa
Brevis Shares Excitement for Upcoming World Cup
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India] - South African cricketer Dewald Brevis has expressed his enthusiasm for the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2027, which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. He believes the event will be a significant occasion for the nation, stating, “it’s going to be special.”
In a conversation with a news outlet, Brevis, who is associated with Red Bull, highlighted that not only the South African cricket community but the entire country is looking forward to the tournament. He acknowledged the mentorship he has received from seasoned players like David Miller, Quinton de Kock, and Aiden Markram.
The last ODI World Cup hosted by South Africa was in 2003, when it was co-hosted with Zimbabwe and Kenya, marking a 23-year gap since the country last held this prestigious event.
Having played nine ODIs and accumulated 230 runs at an impressive strike rate of 143.75, Brevis emphasized the excitement surrounding the World Cup, noting that South Africa's vibrant sports culture and enthusiastic crowds will contribute to a memorable tournament.
“It’s very exciting for it to be in South Africa. I think it’s not just us as players that are excited; the whole of South Africa will be very excited. The love for sport is immense, and I can already envision the crowds at the games and all the ‘gees’ next to the field, which is an Afrikaans term for spirit,” Brevis remarked.
Brevis, who has also played four Tests and 30 T20Is for South Africa, praised the support from senior players like Aiden Markram, Quinton de Kock, and David Miller. He appreciates their encouragement to play “fearless but not reckless cricket,” stating that their experiences provide him with invaluable lessons.
“They’ve all been fantastic and support me for who I am as a player. Aiden, Quinny, and Dave want me to be myself, and through our conversations, I learn a lot from their extensive international experience,” he explained.
Renowned for his explosive batting, Brevis boasts a T20I strike rate of 163.23, having hit more sixes than fours in his career. In 30 T20Is, he has launched 55 sixes and 39 fours, amassing 697 runs over 28 innings.
Discussing his batting style, the right-handed batsman emphasized that his power-hitting is based on timing rather than sheer strength. He aims to maintain his distinctive approach while continuously improving through practice and self-belief.
“My power hitting is more about timing. It’s not about reckless swinging; it’s fearless but calculated. I strive to enhance my consistency and remain true to my unique style. It’s all about training, believing, and having faith in my abilities for the next game,” Brevis concluded.
