Delhi Capitals' Strong Start Without Starc

The Delhi Capitals have kicked off their season with two consecutive victories, even in the absence of Mitchell Starc. However, bowling coach Munaf Patel is eager for the star pacer to join the team soon, emphasizing that there is 'no greater bowler than him in the IPL.'

Munaf, a former Indian fast bowler, believes that Starc's capabilities are comparable only to those of Jasprit Bumrah.

Currently, Starc is awaiting a No Objection Certificate from Cricket Australia and is recovering from a shoulder injury.

Ahead of the match against the Gujarat Titans, Munaf expressed his daily inquiries about Starc's potential arrival.

He humorously noted, 'We have won two games, so his absence hasn't been felt yet.'

Munaf added, 'If we struggle, it will be a different story. Starc is among the elite bowlers globally. No one in the IPL matches his caliber, except perhaps Bumrah. His experience and ability to swing the ball at speeds over 140 km/h with the new ball are invaluable. I check in with the team daily for updates from Cricket Australia. We need him as our leading bowler.'

At Delhi Capitals, Munaf enjoys collaborating with bowlers like Lungi Ngidi, T Natarajan, and Aquib Nabi.

When discussing the frequent injuries of bowlers who exceed 150 km/h, Munaf offered a humorous take.

'Bowlers who can hit 150 km/h are often sidelined. If they aren't playing, they remain injured. Our training system suggests that the more you bowl, the better your rhythm. If you're injured and out of sync, injuries are inevitable,' he explained.

Regarding Ngidi, who has recently showcased impressive variations, Munaf praised him highly.

'Despite his limitations, Lungi is an excellent bowler. He is easy to manage compared to other international players and understands how to bowl effectively on these pitches. He doesn't rely solely on speed but utilizes yorkers and slower deliveries skillfully.'

On Nabi, he remarked, 'He loves to bowl and possesses a strong work ethic. He hasn't fully adapted to the IPL yet. With 60 wickets in the Ranji Trophy, that's quite an achievement. He is prepared to contribute to our team and could play at any moment, even as an impact player.'
