Delhi Capitals Gear Up for IPL 2026: Key Insights and Squad Overview
Delhi Capitals Prepare for IPL 2026
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 is set to kick off on March 28, with all ten teams gearing up to compete for the prestigious title. Among the teams, the Delhi Capitals are under the spotlight as they strive for their first championship win. As they approach the new season, the Capitals aim to enhance their performance and make a significant impact.
Captain Axar Patel addressed the media regarding star player KL Rahul's batting position ahead of their opening match against the Lucknow Super Giants. With a roster featuring multiple openers like Ben Duckett, Abishek Porel, and Pathum Nissanka, questions arose about Rahul's role in the lineup. Axar explained, "Last season, he played in the middle order due to team dynamics. We had two foreign players who were primarily top-order batsmen, which limited our options for the middle order. Consequently, we utilized KL Rahul in that position last year."
He continued, "However, due to injuries and team composition, we decided to promote him. His experience was invaluable, prompting us to make that adjustment. While I can't guarantee his position will remain the same, he has performed well as an opener, scoring significant runs. A strong start is crucial in T20 cricket, as it eases the pressure on the lower-order batsmen."
The Delhi Capitals will commence their IPL 2026 journey against the Lucknow Super Giants on April 1 at Lucknow's Ekana Stadium. Following this match, they will face the Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans at home before heading to Chepauk Stadium to take on the Chennai Super Kings. Both LSG and DC finished fifth and seventh, respectively, in the IPL 2025 knockout stages, and are eager to make substantial improvements this season.
