Deepti Sharma Sets Record as Highest Wicket-Taker in Women's T20 Internationals
Historic Achievement for Deepti Sharma
In a remarkable achievement, Deepti Sharma, India's prominent all-rounder, has made history by becoming the leading wicket-taker in Women's T20 Internationals, surpassing Australia's Megan Schutt with a total of 151 wickets.
This milestone was reached during the fifth and final T20I against Sri Lanka held in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday, marking her as the first Indian cricketer, regardless of gender, to achieve 150 wickets in T20Is.
Currently, Sharma boasts 152 wickets from 133 matches, maintaining an impressive average of over 18.00, with her best bowling figures being 4/10. Earlier in the series, she also made headlines by being the first cricketer in both men's and women's formats to accumulate 1000 runs alongside 150 wickets in T20 Internationals.
In this match, she concluded her bowling spell with one wicket while conceding 28 runs over four overs.
India secured a victory by 15 runs, successfully defending a target of 176 runs as the Indian bowlers limited Sri Lanka to 160 runs in their allotted 20 overs. This win allowed India to sweep the series 5-0.
Despite a strong performance from Sri Lanka, including a solid partnership of 79 runs for the second wicket between Imesha Dulani and Hasini Perera, they fell short. Sri Lanka's captain, Chamari Athapaththu, was dismissed early in the innings.
Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur's impressive fifty, coupled with a crucial late innings contribution from Arundhati Reddy, who scored 20 runs in the final over, propelled India to a total of 175/7.
Reddy and Sneh Rana's partnership added a significant 33 runs off just 14 balls for the eighth wicket, which proved vital in setting a competitive total.
