Deepti Sharma Achieves Milestones in T20I Match

In a remarkable performance during the third T20I against Sri Lanka, held in Thiruvananthapuram, India's all-rounder Deepti Sharma made headlines by surpassing Australian great Ellyse Perry, becoming the third-highest wicket-taker in women's international cricket history.


With an impressive bowling figure of 3/18, Deepti not only broke Perry's record of 331 wickets in 271 matches but also reached a total of 333 wickets.


In the T20I format, she made history as the first Indian, male or female, to achieve 150 wickets, tying with Australia's Megan Schutt as the leading wicket-taker in T20Is, boasting 151 wickets in 131 matches at an average of 18.73, with her best performance being 4/10.


In One Day Internationals, Deepti ranks eighth among women bowlers and is India's second-best, following Jhulan Goswami, who has 255 wickets. Deepti has taken 162 wickets in 121 ODIs at an average of 27.32, including best figures of 6/20, along with three four-wicket hauls and four five-wicket hauls. In her Test career, she has claimed 20 wickets at an average of 18.10, featuring one four-wicket haul and one five-wicket haul.


Currently, the only players ahead of her in the women's international wicket-taking leaderboard are England's Katherine Sciver Brunt, with 335 wickets in 275 matches, and the legendary Jhulan Goswami, who has 355 wickets in 291 matches.


Additionally, Deepti made history by becoming the first cricketer, regardless of gender, to achieve the milestone of 1000 runs and 150 wickets in T20 Internationals. Alongside her 151 wickets, she has accumulated 1,100 runs in 131 matches, averaging 23.40 with a strike rate of 104.26, including two half-centuries in 81 innings.


In the match itself, India won the toss and opted to field first. Sri Lanka managed to score 112 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs, with notable contributions from Imesha Dulani (27 runs), Hasini Perera (25 runs), and Kavisha Dilhari (20 runs).


For India, pacer Renuka Singh was the standout bowler, taking 4 wickets for 21 runs.


During the chase, Shafali Verma delivered a stunning performance, scoring 79 runs off 42 balls, supported by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who added 21 runs. India successfully chased down the target in just 13.2 overs, winning by eight wickets. Shafali's innings marked her second consecutive fifty, bringing her total to 333 runs in eight T20Is this year, averaging 55.50 with a strike rate exceeding 173, including three half-centuries and a top score of 79.
