Deepti Sharma Makes Waves at WPL Auction, Returns to UP Warriorz
Deepti Sharma's Exciting Return to UP Warriorz
New Delhi, November 27: Deepti Sharma has made headlines by rejoining UP Warriorz (UPW) during the Women's Premier League (WPL) auction, becoming the second most expensive player ever purchased in the event's history, with a price tag of Rs 3.2 crore through the Right to Match (RTM) card. The intense bidding war, which saw Delhi Capitals (DC) briefly take the lead, concluded with UPW successfully retaining their star all-rounder.
Expressing her excitement, Deepti shared her joy about returning to the franchise she considers her home. She stated, “Being from Uttar Pradesh, I have a deep connection with UP Warriorz. The management has always been incredibly supportive. The auction was exhilarating from the beginning, and I’m thrilled to be back with UP Warriorz. I can’t wait to represent them again,” she remarked during an interview on JioHotstar.
In addition to Deepti, the Warriorz have bolstered their roster with significant signings, including Australian cricket stars Phoebe Litchfield and Meg Lanning. Litchfield, recognized as one of the most promising young players globally, was acquired for Rs 1.20 crore following an impressive ODI World Cup where she scored 304 runs in seven innings, including a century in the semi-final against India.
Meg Lanning, the renowned Australian captain and former opener for Delhi Capitals, joined UPW for Rs 1.9 crore, bringing invaluable experience and stability to the batting lineup.
When asked about the new recruits, Deepti praised the incoming talent, saying, “It’s hard to choose just one standout player because Phoebe Litchfield and Meg Lanning are both performing exceptionally well. Meg has been remarkable in the Big Bash League, while Harleen Deol excelled in the World Cup. They are all fantastic additions, but if I had to pick, I would go with Phoebe Litchfield,” she concluded.
