Deepti Sharma Confident Ahead of India-Pakistan Clash in Women's Asia Cup
India's Strong Position in Women's Asia Cup
On Friday, senior all-rounder Deepti Sharma expressed confidence that India has consistently outperformed Pakistan in their recent encounters and aims to maintain this trend during their upcoming match in the Women’s Asia Cup on Saturday.
Having already secured a spot in the semifinals with one match remaining, India enters this final league game against Pakistan as the clear favorites. Under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, the team currently leads Group A, boasting two impressive victories over Thailand and Hong Kong.
Deepti commented during the pre-match press conference, "There’s no significant advantage. What matters is that in our past encounters with Pakistan, whether in the Asia Cup or other matches, we have always been a step ahead. That’s the key point."
She highlighted the overall performance of the team, stating, "Both our bowling and batting units are well-balanced. Each player strives to excel on their day, and the team maintains a positive atmosphere to enhance performance."
When discussing the Pakistan team, she remarked, "Our team is strong, and their bowlers are competent as well. However, we prefer to concentrate on our strengths. Our goal is to play an impressive brand of cricket, which is our primary focus."
Deepti emphasized the importance of playing cohesively, saying, "We aim to deliver solid performances as a unified bowling and batting unit, just as we have in our previous two matches. That’s our mindset." The 29-year-old has taken six wickets in the two matches played so far.
Regarding team selection, she stated, "That decision lies with the management." Deepti praised the talents of left-arm spinner Shree Charani and leg-spinner Prema Rawat, noting their contributions.
"Charani is an exceptional talent, currently ranked number one. She has shown remarkable performance over the past year, and her ability to turn the ball is impressive, making it challenging for batters to face her," Deepti said.
"Similarly, Prema may not have played many matches, but she consistently seeks breakthroughs for the team whenever she bowls." Charani has claimed four wickets in two matches, while Prema has taken two.
As a senior player, Deepti mentioned her efforts to support her teammates, stating, "I strive to assist them as much as possible, both on the field and in practice, sharing my experiences to help them grow."
