David Warner Faces Drink Driving Charges Amid PSL Campaign
David Warner Charged with Drink Driving
Renowned Australian cricketer David Warner has been charged with drink driving following a random breathalyser test conducted on the night of April 5 in Maroubra, Sydney. Reports indicate that the former Test opener registered a blood alcohol level that was double the legal limit. According to a statement from NSW Police, Warner had parked his vehicle before arriving at the testing site, where officers administered the breathalyser test, resulting in a positive reading of 0.104. He was subsequently arrested and taken to the Maroubra Police Station, with a court appearance scheduled for next month.
Despite retiring from international cricket in 2024, Warner has continued to participate in the Big Bash League. Last season, he had an impressive run with the Thunder, earning the captaincy of the tournament's official team despite the team's overall struggles, finishing last with only two wins. Warner emerged as the top run scorer of the regular season, amassing 433 runs across eight matches, significantly outpacing his teammate Matthew Gilkes, who scored 201 runs less. His remarkable innings included an unbeaten 130 against Hobart and another unbeaten 110 against the Sixers in the Sydney Smash.
Warner's performance also saw him surpass Melbourne Stars captain Marcus Stoinis in the captaincy race, leading the league with 38 fours and achieving an outstanding average of 86.6. He has confirmed his participation in the upcoming season, which will coincide with his 40th birthday.
Warner's Current Engagement in PSL
Currently, Warner is playing for the Karachi Kings in the PSL 2026. He took a brief mid-season break to return home after the team secured victories in all three of their matches, showcasing their strong performance. Warner returned to Australia before the Karachi Kings' next match against Peshawar Zalmi, scheduled for April 9 at the National Stadium in Karachi. During this break, players have been given time to rest and recharge, with Warner expected to return to Pakistan in time to prepare for the upcoming games. Several players, including Hasan Ali, David Warner, Adam Zampa, and Azam Khan, have been temporarily released to facilitate this short break.
