Dasun Shanaka's Transition from PSL to IPL

Dasun Shanaka, the captain of the Sri Lankan T20 team, has decided to leave the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and is poised to join the Indian Premier League (IPL) as a substitute for the injured Sam Curran of the Rajasthan Royals (RR), who will miss IPL 2026.

A report from a sports news outlet indicates that a senior official from the RR management has confirmed their intention to sign the Sri Lankan all-rounder.

“There are a few formalities left, and he needs to finalize some documentation with Sri Lankan Cricket,” the official mentioned.

Shanaka showcased an impressive batting display during the T20 World Cup, particularly in the match against Pakistan, but went unsold in the mini IPL auction held in Abu Dhabi last December.

Subsequently, he was acquired by Lahore Qalandars for PKR 75 lakh during the PSL auction.

This marks Shanaka as the second player to withdraw from the PSL this season, following Zimbabwean fast bowler Blessing Muzzarbani, who has signed with the Kolkata Knight Riders. Muzzarbani was initially selected by Islamabad United but later joined KKR at his base price of INR 75 lakh.

The Pakistan Cricket Board expressed strong disapproval of Muzzarbani’s decision, stating that they would pursue legal action against the Zimbabwean bowler.
