Daljit Kaur's Journey to the World Cup

Daljit Kaur, a 36-year-old pesapallo athlete hailing from Dabrikhana village in Faridkot district, has earned a spot on the Indian team for the upcoming 12th Pesapallo World Cup, scheduled to take place in Sydney, Australia, from October 2 to 5. Her selection has sparked joy and celebrations throughout her village.

The team departed for Australia on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in Daljit's sporting career.

In addition to her athletic pursuits, Daljit works as a physical education teacher, inspiring children to embrace a healthy lifestyle through sports. She previously represented India at the World Cup in Japan back in 2008 and has since secured two gold, three silver, and two bronze medals at senior national championships.

Challenges Faced by Daljit

Daljit's selection has also highlighted her challenging financial circumstances. She revealed that she must cover her travel expenses, visa fees, airfare, food, and accommodation on her own. As a mother of two daughters, she comes from a financially disadvantaged background.

In light of her situation, villagers and supporters have urged the Punjab Government to prioritize such athletes for government jobs and provide sufficient financial assistance, enabling them to represent the country without the burden of financial strain.

Family members, local elders, and international kabaddi commentator Mohammad Gauri, who also originates from Dabrikhana, have extended their best wishes to her. The community is optimistic that Daljit will bring pride to her village, region, and nation at the World Cup.
