CSK's Ruturaj Gaikwad Faces Pressure Amidst Team's Recent Success
CSK's Recent Performance and Gaikwad's Struggles
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have rejuvenated their season with consecutive victories against the Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders. However, the performance of their captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, is raising concerns. In five matches, Gaikwad has only scored 63 runs, averaging a mere 12.60. While Sanju Samson and Ayush Mhatre have shown solid form at the top of the order, Gaikwad's struggles could pose a challenge for the team.
Former cricketer Irfan Pathan expressed his confusion over Gaikwad's cautious batting style in IPL 2026. He noted that as an opener, Gaikwad's role should focus on scoring quickly during the powerplay. “Ruturaj Gaikwad’s batting approach definitely needs attention. In the last match, he faced 17 balls with an excellent control percentage,” Pathan remarked. “This indicates he was playing it safe and not taking risks, which is not ideal for an opener,” he added.
Pathan suggested that if Gaikwad prefers a more conservative style, he might be better suited to bat at No. 3. “If he wants to maintain this approach, he should consider dropping down the order. However, if he aims to open, he must adapt his strategy,” Pathan advised.
'Too Many Things Running In Mind': Sadagoppan Ramesh
In a related discussion, former Indian opener Sadagoppan Ramesh emphasized the need for Gaikwad to separate his captaincy responsibilities from his batting. “Currently, he seems to have too much on his mind. It’s crucial for him to approach his batting without the weight of captaincy,” Ramesh stated on his YouTube channel. “Most captains struggle with this balance. When you carry the captaincy into your batting, it complicates your mindset,” he explained. Ramesh encouraged Gaikwad to focus on his role as a batsman and suggested that if he collaborates effectively with Sanju, they could form one of the strongest partnerships in the IPL.
