Los Angeles, California - April 23: The long-awaited return of cricket to the Olympic Games is becoming a reality as construction has officially commenced on a dedicated venue in Pomona, California, in preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
Jay Shah, the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), emphasized that cricket is entering a thrilling new chapter of global expansion, with its inclusion in the Olympics representing a significant achievement and a vital step towards broadening the sport's appeal.
He remarked that this new venue signifies a pivotal moment in cricket's Olympic journey and is anticipated to play a crucial role during the Games, while also contributing to a lasting legacy for cricket in the United States.
“These are thrilling times for cricket as it makes significant progress in establishing itself as a global sport. Our aim has been to broaden cricket's reach, and being part of the Olympic movement is both a source of pride and aspiration,” stated Jay Shah.

The groundbreaking event, which took place at the Fairplex Grounds in Los Angeles County, was celebrated as a historic occasion by the ICC, which has been advocating for the sport's global growth.
The LA28 Olympics, set to occur from July 14 to 30, will feature T20 cricket competitions for both men and women, marking the sport's first Olympic participation since the 1900 match between Great Britain and France.
Additionally, the Pomona venue will play a significant role in the lead-up to the Games, hosting matches for Major League Cricket, including games featuring the Los Angeles Knight Riders in early July, further enhancing cricket's visibility in the American market.
