Controversy Erupts Over Color-Changing Ball in PSL 2026 Opener
Strange Incident in PSL 2026 Opener
The 2026 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has kicked off, but it has already ignited one of the most peculiar controversies in cricket history.
What was anticipated to be a standard opening match between Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore transformed into what fans are dubbing a “pink-ball game.”
The unusual situation arose when Marnus Labuschagne, the captain of Hyderabad Kingsmen, observed that the white ball was inexplicably changing colors, first to pink and then to a darker red hue.
Labuschagne promptly alerted the umpires, suggesting that the discoloration was likely due to the players’ pink jerseys.
“I informed the umpires after the second over, ‘What’s happening? The ball is red,’” he stated during a post-match press conference. “It must be from the clothing or something. I’ve never encountered anything like this before.”
In cricket, players typically shine the ball using their jerseys to keep one side polished. However, in this instance, it seems that dye from the Hyderabad Kingsmen’s uniforms may have been transferring onto the ball during this process.
Following Lahore Qalandars' victory, the Hyderabad Kingsmen took to X to make a light-hearted remark:
“Kudos to the opposition for winning their first pink-ball game.”
This post quickly gained traction, with fans inundating social media with amusing comments.
One user remarked, “What a huge embarrassment for PCB.” Another quipped, “The color-changing ball by PCB is a groundbreaking innovation!”
Labuschagne expressed optimism that the matter would be resolved swiftly.
“I’m confident they’ll address it in the upcoming matches,” he added.
