Ball Tampering Scandal Shakes PSL Match

The recent match in the Pakistan Super League (2026) between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings was marred by a ball tampering incident. The game was intensely competitive, with Karachi needing 14 runs in the last over while chasing a target of 129. Just before the first delivery, umpire Faisal Afridi noticed suspicious behavior involving Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Fakhar Zaman. He decided to inspect the ball, leading to a shocking ball change for Lahore Qalandars. This decision resulted in a five-run penalty for the team, reducing their target to just nine runs in six balls. Haris Rauf bowled the over, but the penalty proved costly as Karachi clinched the victory.

Reactions to the Ball-Tampering Incident

Following the match, Lahore's captain Shaheen Afridi addressed the controversy but chose not to express strong emotions. He mentioned that he would review the footage to determine if there was any deliberate alteration to the ball's condition. "I don't have all the details right now, but we will check the camera footage and discuss it. The five-run penalty is something we can't change," Shaheen stated during the post-match presentation.

In a similar vein, all-rounder Sikandar Raza from Qalandars denied any wrongdoing regarding the ball's condition. He expressed uncertainty about who the umpires were accusing of tampering and emphasized the need to see evidence before drawing conclusions. "You should ask the umpires why they decided to change the ball. When we inquired, they told us to step back. They even asked us to return to our fielding positions while making their decision," Raza explained. He added, "I can only speak for myself; I never attempted to alter the ball's condition. I recall being told not to dry the ball under my shirt. Unless we see proof, this is a significant decision. I have not been summoned for an inquiry," he concluded.
