Concerns Rise Over Mike Hesson's Future with PCB After T20 World Cup Disappointment
Basit Ali's Bold Claims About Mike Hesson
Former cricketer Basit Ali has made a startling statement regarding coach Mike Hesson, suggesting that he is currently not favored by the advisors of PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi. This revelation comes in light of Pakistan's disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup, raising questions about Hesson's future with the team. Ali indicated that it is typical for Pakistan to overhaul management and selection committees following poor results in ICC tournaments, hinting that Hesson could face consequences for the team's lackluster showing.
“Mike Hesson is not in the good books. I am not referring to Mohsin Naqvi but to those who advise him. Hesson's standing is precarious, and the chairman will have to make a decision,” Basit stated during an appearance on the Game Plan YouTube show.
Impact of Misbah and Sarfaraz's Inclusion
Recently, Pakistan has appointed Misbah Ul Haq and Sarfaraz Ahmed to the selection committee, which Ali believes will diminish Hesson's influence. He expressed confidence that both Misbah and Sarfaraz would not work under Hesson, stating, “The support that Hesson once had is now gone. I can assure you that he will not have the authority to select the squad of 15 players.”
Ali also raised doubts about Hesson's qualifications, arguing that his appointment was primarily based on his performance in the Pakistan Super League. “What justified his selection as coach? It was merely his PSL performance. The upcoming third ODI against Bangladesh is crucial for Hesson,” he added.
Although Hesson has a contract with the PCB that extends until May 2025, his position may be at risk if the team's performance does not improve in upcoming matches. There is speculation that Hesson might even choose to resign if the PCB restricts his authority.
