Chennai Super Kings Make Strategic Signing

In a significant move, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have secured the services of Macneil Noronha as they strive for a playoff spot in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL), with only three matches left in the season. Noronha steps in as a replacement for Ramakrishna Ghosh, who was sidelined due to a fractured right foot sustained during his debut match against the Mumbai Indians (MI). The young player will receive ₹30 lakhs, which was his base price at the auction where he initially went unsold. This season will mark Noronha's first experience in the IPL.

Introducing Macneil Noronha

Who Is Macneil Noronha?

Originally from Karnataka and born in Dubai, Macneil Noronha spent a significant part of his early life in the UAE, where his family resided. At just 24 years old, he is an all-rounder known for his powerful batting and off-spin bowling. Noronha gained attention during the 2024-25 CK Nayudu Trophy (U23 first-class tournament), where he emerged as the top scorer with an impressive 1037 runs across eight matches, including two triple centuries. His outstanding performance earned him recognition at the BCCI's annual Naman Awards earlier this year. Additionally, he showcased his talent in the Maharaja Cup, playing for the Mangaluru Dragons, who clinched the title in 2025. He contributed significantly with 253 runs in 10 innings and took 10 wickets. Despite his promising talent, Noronha has only played three T20 matches for Karnataka in the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), accumulating 58 runs and one wicket. He is yet to make his debut in first-class or List A cricket. It remains uncertain whether CSK will include him in the playing XI for their upcoming match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Friday (May 15) at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
