CSK's Unique Tradition and Success

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have established themselves as one of the most successful franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL), not just through their achievements but also due to the strong team culture and loyalty towards their players. Abhinav Mukund, a former Indian cricketer who was part of CSK in its inaugural season in 2008, shared insights about a unique tradition initiated by the team's management that has significantly contributed to maintaining high morale among players.

Mukund disclosed that the owners committed to doubling the prize money offered by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), regardless of the match outcomes. He emphasized that this practice has been a hallmark of CSK since day one. 'The management made it clear that whatever the BCCI offers, we will double it, win or lose. This tradition is well-known among Chennai players,' Mukund stated during a conversation with Doordarshan.

CSK has clinched the IPL title five times, making history as the first team to defend their championship in consecutive years, 2010 and 2011. They also triumphed again in 2018 after returning from a two-year suspension, followed by victories in 2021 and 2023. The team has reached the finals a record ten times, although they faced defeats in the finals of 2008, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2019. However, their 2026 season commenced on a disappointing note with an eight-wicket loss to the Rajasthan Royals (RR). This follows a challenging 2025 season where CSK finished last, marking a first in the league's history.
