Disappointment for Adkar and Bhosale at Chennai Open

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], November 8: The remarkable doubles journey of Vaishnavi Adkar and Rutuja Bhosale at the Chennai Open 2026 WTA 250 tournament concluded in disappointment as they faced defeat in the final match on Sunday.

As reported by Olympics.com, the Indian pair was outplayed by Switzerland's Naima Karamoko and Simona Waltert, losing the title match with a score of 6-2, 6-0 at the SDAT Tennis Stadium in Nungambakkam.

Despite not clinching the title, Adkar and Bhosale made history by becoming the first all-Indian duo to reach a doubles final at a WTA Tour-level event.

They secured their spot in the final after a hard-fought victory against the second-seeded Polish-American team of Weronika Falkowska and Alana Smith, winning 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 in the semi-finals.

Earlier in the tournament, they triumphed over the British-American pair of Jodie Burrage and Robin Montgomery with a score of 7-5, 6-4 in the quarter-finals. Their campaign began with a straight-sets victory of 6-4, 6-4 against the fourth seeds, Madeleine Brooks and Amelia Rajecki from England in the Round of 16, according to Olympics.com.

India's singles journey in the tournament concluded on Friday when teenager Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi was eliminated in the quarter-finals. Her achievement was notable as she became the first Indian player since Sania Mirza in 2012 to reach the last eight in a singles draw at a WTA Tour-level event.

Maaya also participated in the doubles event alongside Shrivalli Bhamidipaty. The duo advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating the third-seeded Czech pair of Aneta Kucmova and Aneta Laboutkova in the opening round.

However, their run ended in the quarter-finals after losing to the Dutch-Hungarian team of Isabelle Haverlag and Panna Udvardy, as reported by Olympics.com.

Olympian Ankita Raina also took part in the doubles competition, teaming up with Japan's Hiroko Kuwata. Unfortunately, they were unable to progress past the first round, suffering a defeat of 6-1, 6-1 against Australia's Gabriella Da Silva-Fick and Kazakhstan's Zhibek Kulambayeva.
