Ishroop Narang's Remarkable Journey in Judo

Chandigarh's Ishroop Narang, who possesses 12 fingers and 12 toes, has turned what some might see as a disadvantage into a remarkable advantage. Currently holding the World No. 3 position in the junior women’s 78 kg judo category, she has successfully qualified for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, set to commence on July 15, 2026.

Recently, Ishroop earned a bronze medal in the 78 kg division at the Junior Asian Cup 2026, which took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Last year, she was chosen by the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) for an extensive high-performance training program, guided by head coach Mamuka Kizilashvili in Akhmeta, Georgia.

Previously, while representing Punjab, Ishroop secured her first international accolade—a bronze medal in the +70 kg pre-cadet category—during the Commonwealth Judo Championships in Walsall, Great Britain.

Her unique physical attributes have granted her a stronger grip, contributing to her success in various competitions. Training at the Sector 34 Sports Complex under coach Vivek Thakur, she also clinched a gold medal in her category at the 38th National Games held in Uttarakhand.
