Match Preview: Canada vs South Africa

On June 29, in California, Canada’s captain Alphonso Davies was once again not included in the starting lineup for the Round of 32 match against South Africa.

Despite this, he was listed among the substitutes as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury, with ongoing questions about his fitness levels.

South Africa made a significant addition to their squad with the return of midfielder Teboho Mokoena, who was back from suspension after missing the last game against South Korea. He replaced Thalente Mbatha in the lineup.

In contrast, the co-hosts Canada implemented four changes to their starting eleven. Moise Bombito took over from Luc De Fougerolles at center-back, while Stephen Eustaquio returned from injury to replace Mathieu Choiniere in midfield. Additionally, Liam Millar came in for Ali Ahmed, and Tani Oluwaseyi took Cyle Larin's spot in the attack.

South Africa, however, will still be without experienced playmaker Themba Zwane, who is serving the last match of a three-game suspension due to a red card received in the tournament's opening match against Mexico.
