Lakshya Sen's Unexpected Defeat

In a surprising turn of events, Lakshya Sen was eliminated in the second round of the BWF World Championships after losing to Garret Tan from the USA. The match concluded with scores of 21-19, 19-21, and 17-21, marking an early exit for the 2021 bronze medallist.


Sen acknowledged the challenge posed by Tan, a former world junior No. 1, stating, "It was a very tough match. I gave my all, but I was physically drained in the final game. He played exceptionally well, and I must give him credit. While I am disappointed, I will focus on upcoming tournaments."


Sindhu and Shetty Shine

On a brighter note, two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and rising star Ayush Shetty advanced to the pre-quarterfinals. Sindhu, aiming for her sixth world championship medal, triumphed over Canada's Wen Yu Zhang with scores of 21-16 and 21-17. She is set to face China's Wang Zhi Yi next.


Meanwhile, Ayush Shetty dominated his match against Sri Lanka's Dumindu Abeywickrama, winning 21-8, 21-10, and will now compete against Indonesia's Alwi Farhan.


Doubles Teams Progress

The Indian men's doubles duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty also moved forward in the tournament after receiving a walkover in their first match. The fifth-seeded pair had a bye in the first round and were scheduled to face Scotland's Alexander Dunn and Adam Pringle, who withdrew due to an injury.


Additionally, the mixed doubles team of Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila secured their place in the pre-quarterfinals by defeating Macau's Leong Iok Chong and Ng Weng Chi with a score of 21-11, 21-11.


Young Talent Faces Challenges

Unnati Hooda, making her debut at this prestigious event, unfortunately exited after losing to Canada's 12th seed Michelle Li, despite having an early lead. The men's doubles pair of Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun also faced defeat against Korea's Kang Min Hyuk and Ki Dong Ju.
