Lara referred to Sobers as the 'greatest player' from the West Indies, emphasizing that his remarkable legacy will endure forever.

In a heartfelt message on Instagram, Lara extended his sympathies to Sobers' family, recognizing the unwavering support they provided to the cricket legend throughout his life.

Lara wrote, 'Our greatest player has left us. My deepest condolences to every member of his family who stood by him and gave him the strength he needed when he needed it most. May they find comfort and peace during this incredibly difficult time. Rest easy, legend. Your legacy will never be forgotten.'

Sobers had an illustrious career, representing the West Indies in 93 Test matches from 1954 to 1974, amassing 8,032 runs at an impressive average of 57.78, which included 26 centuries. He also took 235 wickets during his career.

His versatility as a left-handed batsman, along with his skills as a left-arm bowler capable of seam, orthodox spin, and wrist spin, made him a celebrated figure in cricket.

One of his most notable achievements was scoring an unbeaten 365 against Pakistan in 1958, a record that remained the highest individual score in Test cricket for 36 years.

In 1968, while playing for Nottinghamshire, he became the first cricketer to hit six sixes in a single over in first-class cricket, achieving this against Malcolm Nash of Glamorgan.

Knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1975 for his contributions to cricket, Sobers was later honored as one of Wisden's Five Cricketers of the 20th Century in 2000.

His legacy continues through the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy, awarded annually by the ICC to the best men's international cricketer across all formats.
