New Delhi, July 30: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has officially confirmed that Brazil's senior men's national football team will compete in an international friendly against India on October 3 in Kolkata.

As five-time world champions, Brazil holds the title of the most successful men's national team in football history. The match will take place at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, marking a significant event in Indian football, as stated in an AIFF press release.

This encounter will be the highest-ranked opponent India has faced since the FIFA World Rankings were established in 1992, with Brazil currently positioned at fifth place.

Brazil's rich football legacy has inspired countless players globally, including a vast number of devoted fans in India, which boasts one of the largest Brazilian fan bases outside of Brazil.

M Satyanarayan, the AIFF Deputy Secretary General, expressed, "Welcoming a team of Brazil's caliber to our nation is a remarkable occasion that will surely be a pivotal moment in Indian football history."

Subrata Paul, Director of National Teams, remarked, "For our national players, this match is more than just a game. It presents a unique chance to challenge themselves against one of the greatest footballing nations. Such experiences encourage players to grow, inspire them to aim higher, and create lasting memories throughout their careers."

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) also shared the news on X, calling it a historic event and expressing excitement about connecting with India, which they noted has the largest international fanbase for the Brazilian national team.

"From Australia to India, the Brazilian National Team's journey continues. After our friendlies in Australia, we will head to India to create an unprecedented chapter in our history. On October 3, the National Team will play on Indian soil for the first time at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. This will be a special match with a country that has passionately followed Brazilian football for generations. We look forward to sharing this moment with millions of Indian fans! See you in Kolkata," the CBF stated.

Additionally, the CBF announced its September FIFA international window schedule, which includes two friendly matches against Australia in Queensland. Brazil will take on Australia in Townsville on September 25 and Brisbane on September 29 as part of the Queensland Football Series 2026.

"These matches are part of the Queensland Football Series 2026 and signify the Brazilian National Team's reunion with the Australian audience in another significant international engagement. See you soon, Australia," the CBF concluded.
