Boxing Federation of India Hosts Key Meeting to Boost Olympic Aspirations
Major Gathering for Olympic Goals
Bagdogra (West Bengal) [India], October 28: A significant meeting of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) took place, with 21 out of its 35 authorized state units participating in a two-day 'Mission Olympic Podium' event. This assembly aimed to unite state units around the Olympic aspirations of Indian boxing, emphasizing an athlete-centric approach.
Among the attendees, 18 representatives were present in person, while three joined via video link. The meeting included members from the ad hoc committees of Mizoram and Jharkhand, as well as a player representative from the BFI Athletes Committee, as reported by the BFI.
This gathering occurs amidst ongoing issues involving the suspended Secretary General Pramod Kumar, with the focus on enhancing the Federation's sports programs and improving collaboration with state units.
Ajay Singh, President of BFI, stated, “Our primary duty is towards the boxers and their future. The involvement of most of our authorized state units reflects their dedication to collaborating as a federation to achieve our Olympic goals, placing athletes at the forefront. The groundwork starts at the state level—spotting talent, supporting coaches, and establishing a clear pathway for boxers to advance, gain competitive experience, and represent India. We need to create a system that consistently prepares our boxers for success at the highest levels.”
The two-day event served as a platform for state representatives to engage in discussions regarding the 'Mission Olympic Podium' initiative, with insights from athletes shaping the dialogue.
BFI emphasized that its main focus remains on ensuring institutional stability, enhancing coordination with state units, and prioritizing the development and preparation of boxers.
