Bowling Coach Munaf Patel Emphasizes Bowlers' Role in T20 Success
The Crucial Role of Bowlers in T20 Cricket
Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], April 30: Munaf Patel, the bowling coach for Delhi Capitals (DC), has highlighted the vital role bowlers play in T20 cricket. He noted that while batters can secure individual victories, it is the bowlers who ultimately determine the outcome of tournaments.
During a press conference before the upcoming match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Friday, Patel acknowledged the high-scoring nature of contemporary T20 matches but emphasized that consistent and disciplined bowling is essential for long-term success.
“I always emphasize that while batters can win matches, it is the bowlers who win tournaments. For instance, just yesterday, there were around 250 runs scored. If bowlers perform well, they can lead the team to tournament victories. Batters may win games, but poor bowling will prevent tournament success. This is a belief I hold strongly,” Patel stated.
Patel also shared news regarding pace bowler Mitchell Starc, confirming that the Australian fast bowler is available for selection in the upcoming match.
“He will be available from tomorrow. Our top bowler will certainly play, but the final decision will be made tomorrow. His return is a significant boost, as it will provide additional support to fast bowlers who may have faced challenges during the powerplay,” he added.
The 36-year-old left-arm bowler has been sidelined since late January due to a heavy workload during the Ashes series, where he was awarded Player of the Series for taking 31 wickets at an average of 19.93. Starc bowled over 150 overs in five Tests before participating in five matches for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League (BBL).
His last game was against the Perth Scorchers, where he injured his left shoulder and elbow while attempting a catch. Although he took a break in February, persistent soreness upon returning to bowling delayed his participation in the IPL.
