In Guwahati, Assam, Bodoland FC rebounded from their initial defeat against NorthEast United with a decisive 3-0 victory over FC1 during a Group F match of the 135th Durand Cup at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium on Thursday.
Before the match commenced, a noteworthy gesture took place at the coin toss. FC1's captain, Ikhlaq Fayaz, gifted a sapling to Halicharan Narzary, the captain of Bodoland, symbolizing a commitment to water conservation and climate awareness, themes that are reflected in FC1's new jersey design.
This moment of camaraderie was soon overshadowed by the competitive nature of the match, as Fayaz found himself under significant pressure throughout the game.
Robinson Rendon opened the scoring for Bodoland shortly after the hour mark, converting a header from Narzary's cross after previously missing two opportunities. Substitutes Rituraj Mohan and Aron Thapa quickly followed suit, each scoring within minutes of their introduction, showcasing the tactical acumen of head coach Vikash Panthi.

The match began with both teams exchanging possession in a tightly contested midfield, with Bodoland gradually asserting themselves. Robinson attempted to break through in the seventh minute but was thwarted by vigilant FC1 defenders.
Fayaz, the FC1 captain, was particularly active in the opening minutes, managing his defense under pressure. Despite twisting his ankle early on, he continued to play after receiving treatment.
As the first half progressed, Bodoland's dominance grew. Norberto's cross found Robinson in the 21st minute, but his header lacked power. By halftime, Bodoland had missed a golden opportunity when Gwgwmsar Gayary failed to score from close range, much to the delight of the home crowd. The second half kicked off with a long-range attempt from Urjoy Brahma, which missed the target. However, the breakthrough came in the 57th minute when Narzary delivered a precise cross to Robinson, who scored with a well-placed header. By the 78th minute, FC1's hopes were dashed when Rituraj scored after a free kick rebounded off the wall. Thapa added a second goal just minutes later, sealing the match with a composed finish.
