Muzarabani's Controversial Ban

Blessing Muzarabani, who withdrew from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to join the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has publicly addressed the two-year ban imposed on him by the PSL. The league took decisive action against Muzarabani, leading to his suspension. In a statement released by his agent, it was clarified that Islamabad United announced Muzarabani's signing without a formal contract. The agent emphasized that when KKR approached him, he was not under any PSL contract, negating claims of a contract violation.

After switching from PSL to IPL, Muzarabani faced backlash from Pakistani fans and former players, prompting him to clarify the situation. The statement noted, "We have remained silent for the past six weeks to avoid escalating tensions with the Pakistan Super League and the Pakistan Cricket Board. However, the overwhelming negativity directed at Blessing on social media has compelled us to speak out." The agent praised Muzarabani's connection with fans, stating, "He is a generous individual who engages with supporters wherever he goes. To those who send hateful messages, you are a disgrace to humanity and cowards."

Chronology of Events

The statement also outlined the sequence of events leading to Muzarabani's contract with KKR. The fast bowler was signed by KKR for 75 lakh, nearly double his PSL earnings. February 13, 2026: Muzarabani was approached by Islamabad United regarding a potential PSL opportunity, contingent on obtaining a no-objection certificate (NOC) from Zimbabwe Cricket. However, an NOC cannot be issued without a PSL contract. Islamabad United announced the signing publicly on social media.

February 27, 2026: With no contract received from PSL or Islamabad United, KKR made their offer, which Muzarabani accepted. The agent reiterated that Muzarabani never received a contract from Islamabad United, rendering the breach allegations unfounded. "You cannot breach a contract you have never been given. The ban imposed on him is excessively harsh and inconsistent with penalties given to players who have actually breached contracts in the past. It is unprecedented for a player to face such public criticism for actions that are not wrong," the statement concluded.

The agent called on the PSL to revoke the ban, acknowledging it as an administrative mistake on their part. "We urge the PSL to withdraw the ban gracefully and recognize this situation for what it is—an administrative error. We hold no resentment towards the PSL or Islamabad United," the statement concluded.
