Blessing Muzarabani: IPL More Challenging Than International Cricket
Muzarabani's Ambitions with Kolkata Knight Riders
Zimbabwean fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani has expressed that the Indian Premier League (IPL) presents a greater challenge than international cricket. Now a member of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Muzarabani is eager to maximize his experience in this highly competitive T20 league. He joined KKR as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman and is focused on enhancing his skills through this opportunity.
“I want to play and perform. I just want to be here. I believe I am good enough. I was really happy to be in the RCB team and getting to see how the game is played and the tempo. I believe that IPL is probably tougher than international cricket. So, me being in RCB last year, I really saw how it’s played. This year, it’s just me adjusting,” Muzarabani stated.
Previously, Muzarabani had a brief stint with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) as a temporary replacement for Lungi Ngidi, although he did not make it to the playing XI. Despite limited game time, he gained valuable insights into the league's competitive nature.
Now with KKR, he is already benefiting from the mentorship of Dwayne Bravo, who has been pivotal in refining his T20 strategies. “He has already told me a lot of things. Ever since I started playing, he has already given me a lot of information about my bowling and the kind of skills that I need to have, especially in T20 – how to practice and how to watch T20 cricket. I believe that at the end of the season, I’m going to be a different bowler,” he remarked.
Muzarabani's recruitment followed his impressive performance at the T20 World Cup, where he took 13 wickets, including significant contributions in matches against India. His pace and bounce have made him a valuable asset for KKR.
Within the KKR environment, Muzarabani has found a blend of competitiveness and support, with teammates motivating each other to excel. He acknowledges the team's strong work ethic as a driving force behind his own improvement. “Guys are so hard-working. I’m a hard worker as well, but I’m really challenged with the guys, the way they work hard and how hungry they are to succeed. They’re really pushing me,” he added.
As he aims for a place in the playing XI, Muzarabani sees this IPL season as a pivotal moment in his career, one that could transform him into a more well-rounded and consistent T20 bowler.
